TourAid Newsletter
Thursday 3rd June 2010
June promises to be an exciting month with tours coming in from Ngecho, Kenya and Pienaarsrivier, South Africa. touraid staff are looking forward to visiting the schools to offer their support and meet the children.
The ISBA Bursars conference in May generated huge interest from the attending school representatives and the follow up to date has been very encouraging. We would like to thank the General Secretary Jonathan Cook for all his support and wish him well in his retirement.

Plans are being finalised for the Caldy Rugby Festival and a brief trip to the Wirral confirmed that all host schools are busy fundraising to enable this amazing event to take place.

Please see our new shop page on the website with fantastic 'touraid' branded Raging Bull merchandise.

We'd also like to say thank you to our 3 cyclists who will be raising funds for touraid in the London to Brighton bike ride, and for the continuing efforts of Dan who is still rowing his way to the million meters award.

Pienaarsrivier South Africa and West Kirby Residential School

WKRS have been supporting Pienaarsrivier Primary school for a number of years and are delighted to be able to make the relationship more tangible for their wider community by bringing a group over to the UK this month.
The purpose of the tour is to give pupils from both schools the opportunity to build on relationships formed prior to and during WKRS's visit to South Africa as well as enhancing understanding and empathy of other cultures. Pupils will work together during timetabled lessons as well as joining them on various tourist destinations which will include Liverpool, Wales and London.

Ngecho School arriving Sunday June 13th

On June 13th, 10 pupils and 2 teaching staff from Ngecho Secondary School in Kenya will arrive in Oundle for the first of what they hope will be many reciprocal visits. Working with touraid, Oundle has laid on a large range of experiences for their week with them, much of it utilising the School's facilities, but also focussing on areas where Oundle can learn as much from Ngecho as vice versa, and where ideas raised and skills learnt in the UK can be taken back to Kenya.

The Ngecho group will spend days in Oundle's Art School, Scitech and the Patrick Centre, the Stahl Theatre, and finally a sports day, including a session with touraid's visiting ambassador, Serge Betsen and Erick Situma of the Kenyan RFU, who is also accompanying the trip.
