Tuesday 6th April 2010 Another busy month which saw Wilda RFC touring from Poland who took part in the Rugby Natinal Sevens and preparation for the tours arriving in June, September and October. Over the next few months touraid will be kept on their toes keeping up with all their fundraising activities. Rugby Fight Night for touraid will undoubtedly be the big fundraiser of the year, however, can I draw your attention to our athletes running for touraid in the Brighton marathon on Sunday April 18th. They would really appreciate your support and are trying to raise £500 each before the big day. Please see below for more details. Wilda RFC Poland Moulsford school enjoyed a great 5 days hosting Wilda RFC from Poland. The boys took part in the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens and managed to win their group before being narrowly defeated in the play offs. In addition to rugby training and the excitement of taking part in the tournament, plans for the week included sightseeing in Oxford and a day trip to London. Mark Griffiths (Director of Sport) reported that the boys had made a real impression at his school and that he had accepted Darek's invitation to return to Poznan next April! Darek believes that at least 3 or 4 of the lads that played will make the Poland National U17s squads in a couple of years. We look forward to hearing news of their progress. Ghana and Danes Hill touraid are delighted that Danes Hill have organised another tour from Accra who will be visiting in October this year. The boys will take part in the curtain raiser for the All Stars Charity Match to be held on October 13th at Esher RFC. Willie Murdock, the school's head teacher, is thrilled to have them back over. This follows the successful tour in 2008 which resulted in the formation of the Ghana Education Trust GET which now provides funding for the boys education. Oundle school are working on a programme for pupils and staff with a drama workshop already planned and the Rugby and athletics day to be held at the end of the week. touraid are looking forward to visiting Oundle and assisting with the tour who are due to arrive on the 12th June. Caldy Festival - Mahamek Boys Home Thailand Great progress has been made with the selection and preparation for the Thailand tour who are being hosted by Birkenhead School. Kit has been donated by Sandy Bay Rugby club for 20 lads. English lessons have started twice a week for 40 boys and the coach,""Superchai", has been excellent in getting the boys to run basic drills on a daily basis. Of the 40 boys, 20 fall in the correct age group and 10 will be selected based upon progress in Rugby training, English and good behaviour. This will be the first group from Thailand and touraid are delighted that Birkenhead are helping to spread the messages across Asia. We would like to thank Adam Wooliscroft from Shop Direct in Hong Kong for his continued hard work supporting the tour. Good luck boys and see you in September. Danny Cipriani hosts Club touraid event A fantastic night held at the Goring saw 100 guests entertained by a very honest and open Danny Cipriani. Questions flew in from Nick Mullens (BBC Sports Commentator) and the floor, ranging from Danny's choice of pet through to his thoughts on the England rugby set up. As well as Danny, the audience heard from England rugby legend Tim Stimpson and Saracens duo Neil De Cock and Richard Houghton on their views of the 2010 6 nations and also the current premiership. The night was a great success and touraid would like to thank Jeremy and his team at The Goring Hotel for hosting the event and also for their fantastic support.
