TourAid Newsletter
Thursday 2nd July 2009
It has been an exciting few months for touraid with the tour from Umzingisi, the Club touraid event at Schroders, the planning for the Tobago Girls netball visit in September and the continuous feedback from groups all over the world with their latest news of the children's developments.

The last few months have also entailed a regional spread of touraid's operations with potential relationships being made from communities in the South-West, Wales, North-West and Midlands with groups supporting disadvantaged children around the world.
touraid believes it now has the structures in place to successfully enable these relationships to flourish using not only rugby but any activity where time is spent together. If you know of a school or club that would be interested in making a real difference to kids' lives around the world, please pass on our details.

Please note that Burhill Golf Club are organising the London Double Header Challenge on Wednesday 2nd Sept. Spaces are going fast for this fabulous day at a ridiculously low price!

For all those going on holiday have a great one and remember to use the FX 4 Charity link
on our home page to buy your foreign currency. You get the best rates and touraid gets £1 for every transaction made
Thanks for all your support and we hope you enjoy the latest e-letter.

One month in Cambodia

The attachment to this Newsletter is a piece written by 19 year old Stephanie Watson, who undertook a month's voluntary work this May in Phnom Penh during her Gap year travels. In September 2007, Kambujabutra spent a week with Orleans Park School in Twickenham and the trip was made possible by Rob Saunders and friends.

Rokeby Year 8s continue their support.

Year 8 pupils at Rokeby Prep school in Kingston raised an amazing £1500 for the Mkombozi project in Tanzania last month when they held a disco at Rosslyn Park RFC.

Last October, the boys hosted 10 boys from the Moshi and Arusha area in the shadows of Kilimanjaro. The friendships have been maintained and strengthened over time and touraid's CEO, Andy Berry, was delighted to receive the cheque on behalf of the Friends of Mkombozi.
There was added jubilation also this week when news filtered through that Mkombozi, who only started weeks before the Tullow Oil Cup in October, recently won the East Africa U13 Festival!
We look forward to the continuing relationship between Rokeby and Mkombozi and we would like to thank the host parents for all their hard work and support as well as Steve Kearns at Rosslyn Park.

Old Reedonians U15 Tour to SA

Over the last few months the boys and parents of Old Reedonians U15 have been fundraising for their tour to South Africa which will depart in August.
The boys spent a couple of days at Sainsbury's in Cobham packing bags and an amazing total of over £600 pounds was raised and a cheque handed to touraid CEO, Andy Berry, at a dinner which was hosted by BBC Personality John Inverdale.

ORRFC Tour Chairman, Neil Clark said, "We have been totally focused on the tour legacy with our aims being to ensure that the relationships made will survive the test of time."
Indeed, touraid praised the vision of the organising committee to insist on a tour that included cultural activities with hosts in South Africa who had not previously had the opportunity to bond with UK tourists.
We wish the boys and parents all the best for their tour and thank them so much for their efforts to support disadvantaged children in SA and around the world

The London Double Header Golf Challenge

Burhill Golf Club, Walton on Thames are delighted to host The London Double Header Golf Challenge to be held on Wednesday 2 September 2009 supporting touraid.

In front of the game at Twickenham on Saturday 5 September, the idea is for each London Club - Wasps, Harlequins, London Irish and Saracens - to be represented by 4 teams who will play on behalf of the Club.
The London Club that is supported by the winning team then becomes the London Double Header Champion. It is hoped that various ex players from the Clubs will compete and other players will be invited to the dinner in the evening. We already have a number of sponsors offering prizes for Hole in One, Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin. There will be a trophy for the winning Club and a prize for the winning team. There will also be a small auction and sale of Mulligans on the day - all proceeds will go to touraid.
