Message from the IFDS President
The IFDS Executive Committee has been hard at work on several major issues. You will see the results of that work reflected in several items in the bulletin. We are still in communication with ISAF on World Cup participation; there will be information in that regard as soon as it is confirmed with the ISAF World Cup governing committee.

We are also pleased to announce that Hannah STODEL (GBR) has been selected as the new chair of the Sailors' Advisory Council; she is currently in training for the 2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition, Weymouth, GBR and will be a valuable asset to our work. Welcome aboard, Hannah!

You will also read that the Medical Committee is announcing the reappointment of International Classifiers as well as the process by which classifiers are selected. In addition, there is information related to the classification seminar scheduled in conjunction with the IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championship, 2009, Athens, Greece in October.

Finally, we are already in the planning stages for the 2009 IFDS Annual General Meeting to be held in Busan, Korea in November 2009. Please be aware of the deadlines for submissions to the meeting, nominations for committee positions as well as the two positions of Vice-President.

Special thanks to John Twomey, who has been our liaison to ISAF in the ISAF World Cup discussions, and to Dr. Jürgen Schwittai and Dr. Bernard Destrubé, who have been managing classification at those events. Of course, our thanks to those unnamed volunteers who labor behind the scenes for the sailors; your efforts are appreciated. Thanks as well to the ISAF staff and to Emma Little, whose support is invaluable to IFDS!

As the fall sailing season will soon be upon us, I look forward to seeing many of you in Athens and wish all of you who attend Sail for Gold in Weymouth a successful competition there.

Fair winds

Chairman, IFDS Medical Committee - Bernard DESTRUBÉ (FRA)
Although International Classifiers were available for the World Cup Events in Medemblik and Kiel, organizational difficulties in this first year of the ISAF World Cup Series, as well as small turnouts at some of the regattas made it difficult to provide classification at these events. We look forward to being able to classify sailors at Weymouth and of course at the IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championship, Athens, Greece.

Following the decision of the IFDS Executive Committee and according to the present regulations on certification and recertification of IFDS International Classifiers, the following have been re-instated as IFDS International Classifiers :

Level 1 Junior Classifiers:
• Peter ANATASSIADIS (AUS)
• Pedro LEITE DE CUNHA (POR)
• Benedict TAN (SIN)

Level 2 Senior Classifiers:
• Bernard DESTRUBÉ (FRA)
• Jenny MOLSON (CAN)
• Sue PARRY (GBR)
• Jürgen SCHWITTAI (GER)
• Tzaki SIEV-NER (ISR)
• Stephen WILSON (AUS)

Jürgen SCHWITTAI (GER) was appointed as the Chairman of the IFDS Classification Sub-Committee.

2012 Paralympic Sailing Competition
As a result of extensive discussions held by the IFDS Executive Committee in June, IFDS has informed the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) of our decision to maintain the medal events program and quotas of the 2008 Paralympic Sailing Competition for the 2012 Paralympic Games. Many factors went into this decision; we concluded that it is in the best interests of the sport to strengthen the level and quality of competition for 2012 as we continue to explore additional opportunities for the 2016 Games.
